Seit 2020 steht die Friedensstatue in Berlin Moabit. Das Denkmal symbolisiert die sogenannten „Trostfrauen“, also Frauen, die während des Asien-Pazifik-Krieges durch das japanische Militär sexuell versklavt wurden. Für die japanische und südkoreanische Regierung ist das Thema „Trostfrauen“ gemäß Abkommen vom Jahr 2015 „endgültig und unwiderruflich“ abgeschlossen, und sie wollen nicht mehr darüber sprechen, obwohl die Betroffenen nach wie vor eine offizielle Entschuldigung und Entschädigung fordern. Es ist der heutige Premierminister von Japan, Kishida, der dieses respektlose Abkommen unterzeichnete und auch die Friedensstatue in Berlin beseitigt sehen möchte. Jedoch sind die Stimmen für den Erhalt des Mahnmals groß. Allein im Bezirk haben über 3.000 Menschen für den Erhalt der Statue unterschrieben, online wurden über 44.000 Unterschriften gesammelt. Trotzdem will die Stadt die solidarische Figur entfernen. Jetzt braucht die Statue Geld für Gerichtskosten.
Bei dem Filmabend schauen wir gemeinsam den Dokumentarfilm „The Silence“ von Park Soo-nam über den Kampf der ehemalige „Trostfrauen“ für die Gerechtigkeit. Vorab spricht Aiko Okamoto über die aktuelle Situation der Friedensstatue in Berlin. Kommt zahlreich!

The peace statue has been standing in Berlin Moabit since 2020. The monument symbolizes the so-called „comfort women“, women who were sexually enslaved by the Japanese military during the Asia-Pacific War. For the Japanese and South Korean governments, the „comfort women“ issue is „finally and irrevocably“ closed according to the 2015 agreement, and they no longer want to talk about it, although those affected are still demanding an official apology and compensation. It is the current Prime Minister of Japan, Kishida, who signed this disrespectful agreement and also wants to see the peace statue in Berlin removed. However, the voices for the preservation of the memorial are strong. In the district alone, over 3,000 people have signed in favor of preserving the statue, and over 44,000 signatures have been collected online. Despite this, the city wants to remove the statue of solidarity. Now the statue needs money for legal costs.
At the film evening, we will watch the documentary „The Silence“ by Park Soo-nam about the struggle of the former „comfort women“ for justice. Beforehand, Aiko Okamoto will talk about the current situation of the peace statue in Berlin.
