We are pleased to introduce the three SYLA residents: Claudia Holzinger, Narges Kalhor and Anne Seiler. The jury consisted of three of us from the FLORIDA committee, curator Laura Lang and dramaturge Rania Mleihi. In a long decision-making process, we selected from 67 great and diverse entries and are looking forward to work with Narges, Claudia and Anne over the next few months.

Anne Seiler was born in Munich in 1984 and studied sculpture at the HfBK Dresden and the AdBK Munich. In her artistic work she deals with the global trade and production of textiles and fashion. She dyes, prints or embroiders fabrics, using traditional handicraft techniques. During her residency she will continue this work.

Narges Kalhor, born 1984 in Tehran, studied at the Tehran University of Television and Film and at the HFF Munich. Her graduation film „In the name of Scheherazade“ had its world premiere at „Vision Du Réel“ in 2019 and won the prize for the best German documentary film at the „Dok-Leipzig Film Festival“ and the „Kulturpreis Bayern“ in 2019.

During her residency at FLORIDA, she will be working with Mascha Novikova on the film „Enki-Penki. A super-hero from Osterwaldstrasse“. In the form of a traditional Asian shadow play they will develop a superhero figure and present his story in an experimental way.

Claudia Holzinger studied fine arts in Nuremberg and Vienna, after working as a photo assistant and television editor. She works intuitively and freely interdisciplinary to create expansive installations in which photography always acts as the main narrative. Investigating herself through the social mirror, she tries to reflect it back again, hoping that double negation holds better and that twice negative signs necessarily produce positive results. She defines humour as an important means of creating access to a deeper, often painful truth in her works. Through radical self-reflection, she deals in her works with body politics, personal and collective memory, fan culture, moral hygiene, strategies of patriarchy or the dangers of positive prejudice. During her time at FLORIDA she will work on two photo series entitled „FIASCO“, in which she re-enacts the story of two men, King Ludwig, the II of Bavaria and an insolvent businessman.
